President V\u00e1clav Havel\u2019s death in December 2011 had a profound effect on all of us and was a cause of great sadness. Since then, Mrs Dagmar Havlov\u00e1 and the Dagmar and V\u00e1clav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 have received dozens of requests for permission to pay tribute to President Havel\u2019s personality and legacy. It was clear from the reactions from all round the world and from the expressions of condolence of our own citizens, that V\u00e1clav Havel\u2019s ideas, personal commitment and political foresight will continue to be values fimly rooted in recent Czech history. The public at home and abroad have felt the need to keep V\u00e1clav Havel\u2019s name alive. On the very day of the final farewell to V\u00e1clav Havel, the city of Gdansk named a new avenue in the city after the late President. V\u00e1clav Havel was well-loved in Poland and each of his visits was a major event for the Polish people. There was also a swift reaction from the spa town of Pod\u011bbrady, where V\u00e1clav Havel studied as a young man and of which he was an honorary citizen. A primary school there was named after him a month after his death.<\/p>\n

Shortly after V\u00e1clav Havel\u2019s death, a campaign was launched by the film director Fero Feni\u010d to rename Prague\u2019s Ruzyn\u011b Airport in honour of the late President. The campaign was supported by a large part of Czech society, and the then Minister of Transport, Pavel Dobe\u0161, successfully promoted the idea within the Czech government. The renaming ceremony on 5 October 2012, the 76th anniversary of V\u00e1clav Havel\u2019s birth, was a major event. It was attended by leading representatives of Czech political, social, commercial and cultural life, as well as of foreign embassies in the Czech Republic. In conjunction with the event, an exhibition of photographs from the archives of the Czech Press Agency was opened, documenting V\u00e1clav Havel\u2019s life and work, and an art work by the architect Bo\u0159ek \u0160\u00edpek, which will be a permanent reminder at the airport of the work of the Czechs\u2019 first President after the fall of the Communist regime. Also linked with the V\u00e1clav Havel Airport is an enormous tapestry by the artist Petr S\u00eds, woven to his graphic design by the French master weavers Daniel Bayle and Ren\u00e9 Duch\u00e9. The graphic, \u201cThe Final Audience\u201d was painted by Petr S\u00eds for a special edition of the Hospod\u00e1\u0159sk\u00e9 noviny newspaper in December 2011, after V\u00e1clav Havel\u2019s death. The tapestry is the brainchild of Bill Shipsey, the founder of Art for Amnesty International, and contributions towards the cost of its creation were made by Bono Vox, The Edge, Peter Gabriel, Sting and Yoko Ono, who regarded their involvement in the project as a tribute to V\u00e1clav Havel. The tapestry was officially unveiled at V\u00e1clav Havel Airport on 9 December 2012 on the eve of Human Rights Day and dedicated to the Dagmar and V\u00e1clav Havel Foundation VIZE 97. In her speech, Dagmar Havlov\u00e1 recalled that it was V\u00e1clav Havel who had played a major role in enabling the Czech people to travel freely once more and therefore the installation of a tapestry depicting a man flying over Prague was very symbolic. She expressed satisfaction that travellers would be reminded of V\u00e1clav Havel\u2019s legacy and his lifelong fight for freedom not only when they landed at an airport named after the late President, but also when they viewed the tapestry.<\/p>\n

The legacy of President V\u00e1clav Havel – use of the name <\/span><\/h4>\n

It has become an integral part of the Foundation’s work to return the benefit of the name of the president of the entire society. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dagmar and V\u00e1clav Havel Foundation<\/span>VIZE 97 is the owner of the word and figurative trademark \u201cV\u00e1clav Havel\u201d and as the administrator of the legacy of President V\u00e1clav Havel, it has not only a moral but also a factual right to grant consent to their use.<\/p>\n

The process for legally using the name V\u00e1clav Havel is very easy. Foundation\u00a0VIZE 97 is very supportive of projects that want to use the name not for commercial purposes, but to revive public memory and show respect to the President.<\/p>\n

All you have to do is submit an official application, containing all possible information about the initiative and the use of the name, to the dagmar and V\u00e1clav Havel Foundation VIZE 97.<\/p>\n
