Ceremonial minting of the commemorative medal in Jablonec nad Nisou
Yesterday, on the day of her birthday, Mrs. Havel, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97, participated in the ceremonial minting of the first commemorative medal in honour of her late husband. Thereby, Czech Mint is also supporting the projects of the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97.
“This medal, issued in honour of Václav Havel, is exceptional in that its proceeds from sales will be used for charity projects. For this reason, we have also granted Czech Mint the right to use the signature of Václav Havel with its typical heart, on the back of the medal. Proceeds from sales will be used, for example, for repairing the Church of St. Anne and on a project that will be closely related to Václav Havel, which we will provide further information about throughout the year,” said Mrs. Havel at the opening ceremony of minting.
The charity project is the result of cooperation between Czech Mint and the VIZE 97 Foundation. From each medal sold, which costs CZK 25 000 in gold and CZK in silver, the Foundation will receive CZK 1000, or CZK 400.
The main motif of the front side of the commemorative medal is a portrait of Václav Havel, plus his date of birth and death. The motif of the reverse side will be a copy of Václav Havel’s signature in the centre with the bilingual motto “Truth and love must prevail over lies and hate”.
As anticipated, there is great interest in the commemorative medal – the first hundred gold medals with the serial number engraved on them were sold in just a few hours of launching the reservation system at www.mint.cz.
The public’s interest has led Czech Mint, once again in cooperation with the VIZE 97 Foundation, to extend the series of medals issued in honour of the late President by adding high-weight minting in designs of a kilogram of gold and a half kilogram of platinum, both with a diameter of 85 mm. These will be intended for VIP investors and philanthropists and will be introduced to the market probably during the course of April and in a very limited edition. “We will mint ten medals in platinum and ten in gold. Owners of this collector’s rarity will contribute to the VIZE 97 account,” said Director of Czech Mint, Radek Šulta.
Mrs. Dagmar Havel extends her gratitude to all those who will or have already purchased one of the medals because by doing so, they are also supporting non-commercial projects which Václav Havel initiated or founded. Moreover, thanks to this event the VIZE 97 Foundation can continue developing these projects according to the ideas of the late President.
