Closing ceremony of the Golden Prague International Television Festival
On 19th October, the Žofín Palace hosted many significant guests, including the member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation VIZE 97, Mrs Táňa Fischerová. Upon this occasion, prizes were awarded in the great hall to the best films in the 48th year of the Golden Prague International Television Festival and at the same time the evening was also the festival’s closing ceremony. Mrs Fischerová presented one of the evening’s prizes, that being the VIZE 97 Foundation Award which went to the film “Rostropovich: The genius of the Cello” by the director John Bridcut. The director received not only a diploma, but also a symbolic cheque at the amount of 30,000 CZK. The money should assist the artists in their further work and it should also provide moral support for television and film art. The Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 has participated in the festival since 2002 and the prize was presented for the tenth time.
The document of British director John Bridcut brings an in-depth look into the personality and art of the great Russian violoncellist Mstislav Rostropovič. It is interestingly enriched by selected archive material and mainly by spontaneous narration provide by his friends, family and former students. Thus a very compelling and persuasive portrait of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century was created.
