Dagmar Havlová was given a unique radio recording of Václav Havel of August 1968

Today Dagmar Havlová received a historical recording from the hands of the Director General of Czech Radio Peter Duhan, of Václav Havel and Jan Tříska commenting the dramatic events of August 1968. The unique recording, rightfully referred to as the radio discovery of the year, was handed over by the Director General of Czech Radio at the seat of the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation Vize 97.

The noteworthy, more than thirty-six hour recording broadcasted by the Liberec studio of the Czechoslovak Radio of August 1968 involving actor Jan Tříska and playwright Václav Havel, considered lost for years, was offered to the radio station 45 years later by the son of Liberec listener Vladimír Beran.

”This discovery confirms what we all know, what both persons involved often remembered, but no one heard since 1968,” explains editor of Czech Radio Tomáš Černý. “Suddenly we know exactly what exactly Jan Tříska reported in Liberec and we are finding that it was not just the texts of Václav Havel, as was always believed…,” points out Tomáš Černý.

Apart from digitalization of the recording, Czech Radio has also included a part of the recording in the document “We are with you, be with us!” to the 45th anniversary of the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia.
