Ivan Chvatík – winner of 2020 Foundation VIZE 97 prize

In accordance with its mission, the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 awarded its International Prize to a prominent thinker who, in his work, transcends the traditional framework of scientific knowledge, contributes to understanding science as an integral part of general culture, and deals with basic issues of knowledge, being and human existence.

The 22nd VIZE 97 Foundation Prize goes to VIZE 97, Ing. IVAN CHVATIK, dr. h. c., a prominent Czech philosopher and founder of the Jan Patočka Archive at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

He received the VIZE 97 Foundation Award for his long-term care for the work of J. Patočka, his archival concentration and collective publishing, for his interpretations, together with translations of nearby philosophical works. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there could be no traditional handover and ceremony at the Prague Crossroads. Ceremony took place in happening-like atmosphere in May 2021.
