Education Support Project cancelled
Members of the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 Board of Trustees decided at their meeting to cancel the Education Support Project. The main reason for cancelling the project is the fact that the VIZE 97 Foundation has several very demanding projects in its portfolio, such as The Prague Crossroads, The Fund of Understanding, The Foundation VIZE 97 Prize, Early Diagnosis and Prevention of Colon and Rectal Cancer, The St. Nicholas Charity Bazaar, and preparatory work is currently under way on a new cultural project, which will be closely linked to President Václav Havel. We had to give up at least one of these projects to ensure the high quality of all projects.
The Education Support Project was founded in 1999. In its 13 years of existence we redistributed CZK 4,547,000 to the total of 119 supported students. We also awarded the “Recognition for the Philosophy of Education and for the Renewal of University Ideas” prize seven times within the project and we donated CZK 679,000 to distinguished professors.
Recently several foundations directly focused on supporting gifted students were also established. We are therefore confident that all students who as of this year will no longer be able to turn to us with a request for a financial contribution will find another non-profit organization that will help them to make their dreams come true.
