The Office of Václav Havel is a part of the Google Art Project
Google joined hundreds of museums, cultural institutions and archives to present the treasures of world culture on the Internet. One of them is definitely the Office of Václav Havel. The digitalized art collection – Google Art Project – makes it possible for users in the Czech Republic as well as all over the world to virtually view the valuable art objects and events from the life of Václav Havel and to visit the interior of his office in the comfort of their home. With this unique project, Google helps to preserve the world heritage for future generations.
“After President Václav Havel left us at the end of the year 2011, the Dagmar and Václav Havel VIZE 97 Foundation, headed by Mrs. Dagmar Havlová, very much tried to preserve the Office of Václav Havel (OVH), where Mr. President worked starting in the year 2003 and which is located in the Schwarzenberg Palace at Voršilská Street, which is the seat of our Foundation as well. These unique premises were created by Mr. President himself together with the architect Bořek Šípek. The OVH holds many unique artifacts, awards, gifts, art objects, photographs and many other interesting items. The VIZE 97 Foundation is committed to preserving this space as is since it represents a valuable cultural heritage that is beneficial for both present and future generations. The Foundation thus came up with the idea of a new cultural project that will allow the whole world to see the entire premises of the OVH in detail by means of a very extensive and sophisticated virtual viewing that will be launched very soon. We are thus very happy to have been able to start collaboration with the Google Culture Institute, thank to which we can show the visitors of this incredible portal a part of our virtual viewing. We hope that many people from around the world will use the presentation of the Office of Václav Havel on Art Project as a gateway to the full-fledged version of our virtual viewing,” said Vangelis Zingopis, director of the Foundation.
We are convinced that the Google Culture Institute will be useful especially for future researchers and teachers since it provides new opportunities for interactive education.
