One World was launched at Prague Crossroads
The twelfth year of the film festival One World begun officially on Wednesday 10th March 2010 at Prague Crossroads. During the opening ceremony the annual Homo Homini award has been given to two Iranian student leaders Majid Tavakoli and Abdullah Momeni, both of whom have been repeatedly imprisoned for their activities. The award is given by the organization People in Need which has through this act symbolically recognized the whole Iranian student movement. Because both student leaders are currently in prison, the award was taken over by Iranian exiled journalists. One World is currently one of the leading festivals in Europe that deals with human rights issues and the Dagmar and Vaclav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 is proud to be the festival’s traditional partner.
During the eight-day program will be this year presented 101 documentary films from more than 30 countries, both the best documentary films created in the previous year, which have won awards at prestigious international festivals, along with investigative and activist films that draw attention to serious issues and human rights violations. The festival will take place in seven cinemas in Prague and in Prague will end on 18th March, it will then move to 29 other Czech cities. The film festival offers also a rich accompanying program, such as exhibitions and concerts – more information on https://oneworld.cz/.
