One World Festival launched at the Prague Crossroads for the seventh time
The international festival of documentary films on human rights One World commenced at the Prague Crossroads for the seventh time on Monday March 4th. The VIZE 97 Foundation is its partner.
The motto of this year’s festival is the question “Are you afraid to tolerate?” The objective of the fifteenth annual festival, which offers hundreds of films, is to bring attention to the spread of intolerance and racism. According to festival organizers, intolerance is on the rise in the Czech Republic and the economic recession and political crisis are fuelling it. All festival films can be seen in Prague until March 13th. Then they will move to another 40 cities.
During the gala evening, the Homo Homini award was granted once again and this year People in Need presented the award to Azerbaijan lawyer Intigam Aliyev. Organizers honoured him for his courage and commitment in defence of human rights. He gave over 200 cases to the European Court of Human Rights. He even provided legal aid to activists who were involved in peace protests. Intigam Alijev accepted the award from the Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg.
