VIZE 97 Prize, Meeting 2014
On Wednesday, April 9th, 2014, a meeting of the board for the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 Prize X took place. This year, the meeting was attended by the chairwoman of the board, Dagmar Havlová, along with Doc. Ivan Havel, Prof. Pet Vopěnka, Prof. Josef Jařab, Prof. Petr Kůrka, and Doc. Anton Markoš. The VIZE 97 Award board meets annually to elect a laureate for the Prize.
Since 1999, the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 has been awarding its international Prize, in accordance with its mission, to distinguished scholars whose work goes beyond the traditional framework of scientific research, contributes to the understanding of science as an integral part of general culture, and approaches the fundamental issues of knowledge, being, and human existence in unconventional ways. In awarding its annual Prize, the Foundation introduces the pioneers of stimulating contemporary scientific thought and facilitates the presentation of their work to the Czech general public.
The regular award of the Prize is not limited solely to the ceremonial act of its presentation, but is accompanied by other events, including informal meetings of students and professors in discussions with the laureate and other invited guests. The award ceremony takes place each year on October 5th. Its laureate receives a diploma and a commemorative artefact in the form of the crutch of St. Vojtěch by Czech artist Jiří Plieštik. Since 2004, the award ceremony for the VIZE 97 Prize has been held at the Prague Crossroads.
