Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 agreed today with representatives of the Czech Foreign Ministry a standard procedure for naming places abroad after Václav Havel
Under the agreement the Foreign Ministry will inform embassies worldwide about the necessity of informing in the first place with every such initiative Ms Dagmar Havlová through the Foundation VIZE 97. If it is determined that a prestigious non-commercial activity is concerned, Ms Havlová will grant her permission without the need to pay a fee. No naming can take place without this written permission. Foundation does not intend to change anything in this procedure that has been performed automatically since 2011.
The need to standardize the procedure in such cases arose by dint of an oversight of an embassy which actively participated in one renaming without following any of the rules. Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97 was not afforded any space to express its opinion and in view of the approaching deadline for the renaming act the Foundation proceeded as if in a case of commercial use. Despite the embassy’s oversight representatives of the Foundation VIZE 97 and the Foreign Ministry agreed that in the case of the square in Haifa permission for its renaming will be granted without having to pay a fee.
